   Well today is my birthday and we should celebrate all things me. I agree. Let us celebrate Louis M Cook. But that is not me. I am Louis M. Cook, Jr. That is a fact I made sure my teachers knew and acknowledged as a young and probably bothersome youngster. My Dad is Louis M. Cook. He can put a Senior behind his name or not. As the first one, he has that option.    I do not want to forget my Mom but she has told me that giving birth to me was not a tough ordeal. The next few decades were much more trying for her. I wanted to write this last night but I laid down with my wife and son and told them a few stories about my Dad. The sad fact is that my sons and soon daughter do not and will not know the Dad who raised me. His mind has been attacked by a heinous disease known as Primary Progressive Aphasia. Is your smile tank full or running on empty?

   As a kid I never worried about my bank account, what was in the fridge or pantry or what tasks I had to do that day. It was all about fun. I bet I smiled all day. I have no proof of the smiles but my two sons are a font of endless smiles. With Louis, III I was often asked why he was so happy as if there was a mystery involved. Think about it, he was a kid and I was/am his Dad and Tsengel his Mom. That is a sweet gig if you can get it. Just having. Tsengel as your wife is enough to produce a plethora of smiles.   Now with Isaac he is just as happy and free with his smiles as his brother, if not more so. I see it on our walks to and from school, at church, when shopping and when we go out to eat. He smiles and says Hi and even the most crotchety old Mr Wilson-wannabe breaks down with a smile and hello in return. Harmony, hold tight when you find it

   I am still working on cutting out a daily(my hope) block of time to write down something for this blog. I would like to keep it steady. The idea is to try to work together the disparate things that interest me together into a weekly stew that some might find tasty and perhaps worthwhile.    I worked in radio back in high school and a little bit afterwards and have always been a fan of the ability of good radio, like good writing, to make you think. My Dad was an NPR listener and so am I. His favorite piece was a weekly interview each Friday that the old host of Morning Edition did with Red Barber. Red was a Florida native like my Dad and was at one time the voice of the Dodgers. My Dad was a Dodgers fan and he passed it onto me. Players that I would never see play were alive to me via his recollections. His favorites were Duke Snider and Sandy Koufax.
